On Sunday, 10 November 2024, at 10:59, Mr. Bolhuis received a call from a distressed family member reporting
that their 13-year-old niece had left her Meyerton home with a 32-year-old male friend.
In response, the SSS Task Team was immediately mobilised to assist.
The girl reportedly left her family home with a 32-year-old male on Saturday, 9 November 2024.
A missing person's case was opened at SAPS Meyerton: OB 744/11/2024 on Sunday, 10 November 2024.
The girl and the male travelled from Meyerton to Pretoria during the weekend using several taxis, where they went to stay with extended family members of the man.
The family where they sought shelter were unaware of the circumstances, and the missing person's case opened with regards to the underaged girl.
Once it became known that Mr. Bolhuis and the SSS Task Team were actively searching for the underage girl, the family members contacted the nearest SAPS station to ensure her safe return.
The SSS Task Team immediately coordinated with the SAPS, meeting them at the station to ensure the girl’s safety and provide an escort back to Meyerton.
After her return, the authorities thoroughly questioned both parties.
Criminal cases have been opened, and investigations are underway to understand the full scope of the situation.
The 32-year-old male has been detained for charges of kidnapping and statutory rape.
SAPS Meyerton case opened: CAS 119/11/2024.
IMPORTANT:
This kind of incident and investigation is not isolated - it happens regularly. Young girls, from as young as 9 years to 15 years, often leave their family homes with much older men. These girls are usually uncontrollable, rebellious, lascivious, promiscuous and under the influence of alcohol and drugs. They run away with older men for various reasons, seeking attention, assistance, or protection. It is against the law, and the men involved will be held accountable if they accommodate such a young girl. Should you be aware of a situation such as this, it is your responsibility to inform the authorities immediately and take the child to the nearest SAPS or contact SSS for assistance.

Time is of the essence in cases involving missing or kidnapped individuals. The quicker the response, the greater the chances
of a successful resolution. This case serves as a reminder of the critical role prompt action plays in ensuring the safety and
well-being of vulnerable individuals.
