Specialised Security Services was appointed to investigate the circumstances regarding
the tragic death of Chevonne Rusch.
We are elated to inform the public that the people responsible for these heinous crimes were found guilty and received their verdicts yesterday, on 29 April 2024, in the Johannesburg High Court.
THE CIRCUMSTANCES:
2-Year-old Chevonne Rusch was admitted on 11 May 2022 to the Primrose Clinic in Germiston.
On arrival, this little girl was declared deceased.
Her mother and stepfather were found guilty today, the 17th of November 2023, of several charges, including but not limited to:
Murder.
Attempted murder.
Rape.
Human trafficking.
Child Abuse.
Child Neglect.
THE SENTENCING:
Botha and Van Niekerk were sentenced on Monday, 29 April 2024, on charges including the murder of Botha’s daughter Chevonne.
Botha was found guilty as an accomplice to the rape and murder of Chevonne, for which she was sentenced to 25 years imprisonment, respectively.
The further offences and their sentences are as follows:
for sexual assault, 5 years imprisonment;
for 2 charges of child abuse: 10 years each;
and 10 years for attempted murder.
Botha’s sentences will be served concurrently, which means that she will effectively be serving 25 years.
Van Niekerk received a life imprisonment sentence on the charges of rape and murder, respectively.
He was further sentenced as follows:
on 2 charges of child abuse, he was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment, respectively;
for sexual assault, 10 years imprisonment;
and for attempted murder, 15 years.
This guilty verdict and the sentencing in the Chevonne Rusch case were made possible because of the tremendous effort and unwavering commitment of our specialist investigators, Ms Odette Van Staden, the SAPS FCS Unit in Germiston, the NPA as well as the presiding judge, Judge Anneline Africa.
We express our gratitude to the many citizens who have contacted Mr Mike Bolhuis and supported our efforts to ensure that the perpetrators of this heinous crime are prosecuted and convicted to the fullest extent of the law.
