Specialised Security Services (SSS) confirms our Cyberteam diligently investigate a recent investment scam in collaboration with the South African Police Service (SAPS).
This fraudulent scheme, known as the ANT-RANCH scam, preyed upon unsuspecting individuals seeking investment opportunities. Please read our previous exposure of this scam for more context on our website and Facebook page
• Operated by the Ant Ranch Breeding Management Company in 2023, the ANT-RANCH investment lured victims into believing they were purchasing shares in animals like geese, snakes, donkeys, and pigs on American farms.
• However, this was merely a guise to deceive investors, as they never received any returns on their investments.
• The scam's modus operandi involved enticing investors with the promise of daily dividends based on the size and price of the animal they purportedly purchased.
• Communication with the perpetrators was limited to WhatsApp messages, and deposits were made into six different bank accounts, adding a layer of complexity to the scheme.
• Unfortunately, many investors fell victim to the allure of quick profits, reinvesting their returns or neglecting to withdraw their funds as the scheme appeared to thrive.
• However, on 10 October 2023, the ANT-RANCH system abruptly shut down, leaving investors unable to access their accounts. Subsequent attempts to reach the perpetrators through WhatsApp proved futile, as the numbers had been disconnected.
• In response to this fraudulent activity, the SAPS Commercial Crime Investigation Unit in East London swiftly intervened, obtaining a preservation order to freeze one of the accounts associated with the scam.
• Despite progress in the investigation, seven known complainants remain, with authorities suspecting that additional victims may yet come forward.
• Colonel Priscilla Naidu, spokesperson for the SAPS, has urged victims of the ANT-RANCH scam to step forward and report their losses before 21 February to be eligible for reimbursement.
• Failure to do so will result in the forfeiture of funds to the state.
