PROJECT: THE 2024 HOLIDAY SEASON (PART 16) - KEEPING SAFE

YOU MAY SHARE THIS PUBLIC DOCUMENT

The festive season is a time for celebration, but it is also a period marked by an increase in crime.

To ensure a safe and enjoyable holiday, taking necessary precautions and remaining vigilant is essential.

Although these concerns have been discussed before, the threat remains real and it is critical that everyone is reminded of it.

INTERVIEW WITH MR. BOLHUIS:

PRECAUTIONS WHEN LEAVING HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS:

Enhancing Home Security:

  • Create a checklist to systematically secure your home before departure.

  • Ensure all security systems, such as alarms and cameras, function correctly.

  • Inform trusted neighbours, your local security company, the nearest police station, and close family or friends about your absence. Avoid sharing your plans publicly.

  • Employ trustworthy workers or gardeners to maintain a regular presence at your property.

  • Install timers for indoor and outdoor lights to create the appearance of occupancy.

  • Arrange care for pets to ensure they are well-fed and safe.

  • Check that your refrigerator is operating efficiently and stocked appropriately.

  • Replace any burnt-out light bulbs.

  • Close and secure all windows and doors.

  • Turn off unnecessary appliances and confirm that essential ones are operational.

  • Maintain your garden to avoid giving the impression of neglect.

Vehicle Preparation:

  • If driving, ensure your vehicle is roadworthy with updated maintenance.

  • If flying, organise all travel documents and necessities in advance.

General Safety Measures:

  • Handle money cautiously and avoid displaying large amounts in public.

  • Plan as a family, work together and stay close to each other during outings.

What to Avoid:

  • Avoid the constant use of phones in public.

  • Refrain from wearing flashy jewellery or carrying large handbags.

  • Minimise carrying unnecessary documents or valuables in your bag.

  • Avoid posting personal details, photos, or travel plans on social media.

  • Do not share sensitive information online, such as vehicle registration numbers or banking details.

DEALING WITH CRIMINALS IMPERSONATING POLICE OFFICERS:

Identifying Genuine Officers:

  • Criminals posing as police officers can be challenging as they often appear professional and convincing.

  • However, the law allows you to record all interactions with authorities for your protection.

  • Be professional and respectful to avoid escalating the situation.

Safety Measures:

  • Avoid travelling alone, especially at night.

  • Women should avoid driving alone.

  • Keep valuable items out of sight inside your vehicle.

  • Stick to well-known routes and avoid deserted areas.

  • If stopped, remain calm, cooperative, and alert.

  • Do not assume every officer is corrupt; remain neutral but cautious.

THE USE OF FIREARMS:

Understanding the Law:

  • Using a firearm in self-defence is only permissible when your life or the lives of others are in imminent danger.

  • Shooting a fleeing criminal after a robbery can lead to severe legal consequences, as it may be interpreted as an emotional, retaliatory act rather than self-defence.

Key Guidelines:

  • Make informed decisions when using firearms.

  • Study firearm laws and understand the responsibilities of gun ownership.

  • Avoid making decisions driven by anger or emotional distress.

PRIVATE PROPERTY TRESPASSING:

Preventive Measures:

  • Display clear signage, such as “Private Property: No Trespassing” and “Beware of Dogs” (or other applicable warnings).

  • If you have an electric fence, include appropriate warning signs.

  • Ensure your property is well-maintained and visibly secure.

KEEPING CHILDREN SAFE:

Precautionary Steps:

  • Never leave children unattended, even momentarily.

  • Keep them within sight in public spaces, including malls, restaurants, and play areas.

  • Hold your child’s hand in crowded areas.

  • Ensure an adult supervises children at all times.

  • Teach your child to recognise and avoid strangers.

ATM SAFETY PRECAUTIONS:

Safe Practices:

  • Avoid using ATMs alone, especially at night. Elderly individuals, women, and children should seek assistance.

  • Be aware of your surroundings and avoid using ATMs in secluded areas.

  • Shield the keypad when entering your PIN.

  • Prefer withdrawing money from bank tellers if you are unsure about ATM security.

  • Stay informed about scams involving hidden devices that can capture your card details.

  • Educate older adults about the risks associated with ATMs and the importance of cybersecurity.

THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL:

Avoiding Risks:

  • Be cautious in nightclubs and other venues where alcohol is consumed, as they are hotspots for crimes such as robbery and sexual assault.

  • Avoid excessive drinking to maintain control over your actions and decisions.

  • Plan safe transportation to avoid drunk driving.

  • Alcohol impairs judgment, increasing vulnerability to accidents, fights, and other dangerous situations.

  • Enjoy responsibly and remain aware of your surroundings.

Following these guidelines can significantly reduce the risks associated with the festive season.

Stay vigilant, plan, and prioritise safety to ensure a joyous and secure holiday period for you and your loved ones.

Hello! Sometimes after a busy day the best way to relax is an exciting game. One of my favorites is Aviator on 1xBet, which gives real excitement and adrenaline. Thanks to the open page feature, I quickly find everything I need to immerse myself in the game without any extra effort. The convenient application allows you not only to enjoy the games, but also to enjoy the high-quality interface and stable operation. This is a great choice for those who value their time and want to relax with pleasure!
