A case of mistaken identity and uninformed social media sharing has led to Mr. Jaco Pieterse receiving death threats from angry social media users who saw online publications alleging that he had sexually assaulted a 7-year-old pupil from Bergview College in the Eastern Cape Province.
Mr. Jaco Pieterse shares the same name as the person mentioned in the media articles BUT this Mr. Pieterse seen in the photo below is a handyman from Gauteng – the Mr. Pieterse mentioned in the sexual assault case is the principal of Bergview College in the Eastern Cape Province. They are two different individuals from two different provinces of South Africa, who happen to share a relatively common name and surname.
THEY ARE TWO DIFFERENT PEOPLE –
THE ONE IN THE PHOTO HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE REPORTED EVENT.

Apart from the photo, Mr. Pieterse’s mobile phone number and business information have been shared by those who mistook him for his namesake, the principal of Bergview College in the Eastern Cape Province.
Specialised Security Services was contacted to investigate a case of intimidation and contravention of the cybercrimes act after our client, Mr. Jaco Pieterse, received severe death threats on social media and his personal mobile phone. The investigation revealed that Mr. Jaco Pieterse, a handyman from Gauteng, was being mistaken for Mr. Jaco Pieterse, a school principal in the Eastern Cape. This happened after “social media investigators” mistakenly identified the wrong Mr. Jaco Pieterse as the one named in several media articles as a suspect in a sexual assault case of a 7-year-old pupil.
A simple case of mistaken identity by a misinformed social media user has led to threats of physical harm and severe intimidation of an innocent victim.
See examples of the threats that Mr. Pieterse received below:

Specialised Security Services can hereby confirm that Mr. Jaco Pieterse from Gauteng is NOT a person of interest in the sexual assault case of a 7-year-old pupil from the Eastern Cape.
Social media users are warned to verify information before simply forwarding a message or participating in the comment section of a social media publication. You can be held accountable for your actions on social media, regardless of your emotions toward a horrendous crime that was committed.
Specialised Security Services would like to highlight the importance of allowing the legal process to take its course, as the individual in question has not yet been found guilty in a court of law. Premature accusations can have serious repercussions and negatively influence an ongoing case, especially when made prior to the first court appearance or subsequent proof of guilt.
Avoid breaking the law in the name of an emotional reaction; ignorance is not an excuse for breaking the law. Criminal charges will be brought against those who make themselves guilty of contravening the Cybercrimes Act.
