Unfortunately, scammers are quick to pounce when missing pets are reported to the public, and this is also true in this case.
The family received such an instance from the following number: 0730522237.
When people post a request for their missing dog or pet, scammers may take advantage of their distress and vulnerability in several ways:
Fake Pet Found Ads:
Scammers may contact the pet owner, claiming they have found the missing pet.
They might ask for a "recovery fee" or other personal information under the pretence of verifying ownership or arranging a reunion.
Phishing Scams:
Scammers may use the opportunity to steal personal information by sending fake emails or messages that look like they are from legitimate pet recovery services.
These communications often ask for personal details, payment information, or even direct access to accounts.
Donation Scams:
Some scammers create fake fundraisers or donation requests claiming they are raising money for the search or for veterinary care, but the funds are actually diverted for personal gain.
Bogus Pet Recovery Services:
Fraudulent companies or individuals offer pet recovery services or tracking tools that promise to find lost pets they then either provide nothing of value or use the opportunity to gather sensitive personal data.
False Leads:
Scammers offer false leads or claim to have information about a pet's whereabouts, leading pet owners to spend money on unverified tips or services.
Impersonation:
In some cases, scammers impersonate someone from a legitimate organisation or community group to gain the trust of the pet owner and then exploit their situation.
To protect oneself, it is important to verify the credibility of any service or individual offering help.
Be cautious about sharing personal or financial information and use well-known and reputable organisations for assistance with lost pets.

Lalie, like many other pets, are cherished family members and when a pet goes missing,
it is a very traumatic experience for everyone involved.
We hereby inform and warn the public that they must be very careful with their small pets,
which can easily be taken by predators such as owls or killed by bigger dogs.
Some of the smaller pets are stolen and even kidnapped.
Recently we have received numerous requests to investigate the disappearance of small dogs.
This is a warning to ensure that your pets are correctly tagged with the required information and a tracker if possible.
The greater the risk for your small dog, the more you should take necessary safety measures.
There is a market for cats and dogs.
Pets are stolen to be resold.
