Mr Erasmus "Poenie" van Zyl, owner of Reich’s Pharmacy in Lüderitz, Namibia,
is accused of brutally assaulting his wife, Elizabeth Pienaar.
Erasmus "Poenie" van Zyl faced charges of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm in the Lüderitz Magistrate’s Court.
Owing to the severity of the charges, he was denied bail, and the case was postponed to 20 September 2023.
He was again denied bail and remained in custody until bail of R10,000.00 was granted in the last week of November 2023.
SSS will keep the public updated on the upcoming trial.
This is not just a case of isolated violence - it’s a shocking pattern of abuse that Elizabeth Pienaar has endured in silence for far too long. The alleged brutality, fuelled by alcohol abuse, paints a grim picture of suffering inflicted by someone who ought to be a pillar of the community.
The police report reveals that Ms Pienaar has only recently found the strength to break her silence after securing an interim protection order against Mr Van Zyl.
This truth was revealed by Ms Pienaar’s sister, who took to social media to expose the truth about Erasmus "Poenie" van Zyl.
SSS supports these brave women who refuse to be silenced.
