What constitutes fraudulent communication?:
It is of utmost importance to identify all communication received before reacting to it.
Fraudulent communication is defined as:
Someone who contacts you while pretending to be someone else.
Someone who attempts to defraud you and has the intention to do so.
Someone who requests you to send private and personal information like OTP numbers.
Someone who sends messages containing hate speech or derogatory statements.
Someone who attempts to extort, sextort or threaten you.
What does NOT constitute fraudulent communication?:
The following communication does not permit you to report the phone number to WhatsApp.
Non-fraudulent communication is defined as:
Someone who contacts you and has a legitimate reason to do so.
A suitably identified / identifiable legal professional who initiates contact to conduct their work.
Someone who attempts to confirm if they have the correct phone number.
Someone who responds to previous communication that you initiated or are a part of.
Someone who has legal standing can contact you for a legitimate reason.
Reporting a phone number to WhatsApp will/may result in the phone number being banned on WhatsApp,
so it is of the highest importance that you thoroughly:
IDENTIFY THE COMMUNICATION.
Is the communication for a legitimate reason or not?
EVALUATE THE COMMUNICATION.
Do you know the person who is communicating with you?
Is the communication of value to you?
Does the person have a legitimate reason to contact you?
INVESTIGATE THE COMMUNICATION.
Is the content of the communication TRUE?
Is it NECESSARY to react to the communication?
Is the person communicating with you correctly IDENTIFIED?
ONLY AFTER MAKING THESE ASSESSMENTS,
you act by deciding whether you should COMMUNICATE, BLOCK, or REPORT the phone number.
