Mr Mike Bolhuis is adamant in his warnings against the escalation of crime during the festive season. He believes that crime increases exponentially in this period.
Specialised Security Services has forewarned the public to be vigilant in everything they do and wherever they travel.
We have been campaigning for this “positive paranoia” over many years to keep the South African public safe.
SSS welcomes the additional 10,000 policemen- and women who will be deployed in an attempt to combat crime during this time.
We, however, maintain that the public should also put personal safety measures in place.
SSS has close ties and cooperation agreements with several safety and security advisers and companies in many areas in South Africa.
In the cities and on farms, these brave men and women visit private homes and warn of many concerning and flagrantly irresponsible behaviours.
Gates to properties are left open, with expensive vehicles in the driveways.
Doors and even security gates are left unlocked and wide open.
Property owners carelessly enjoy holiday and family gatherings without realising they are vulnerable to home invasions.
Examples:
At the end of November 2023, a 39-year-old woman was shot and killed in a burglary in Hartbeesfontein in the early hours of the morning.
Three houses were robbed in the mayhem that followed.
SAPS are investigating the robberies that look like coordinated attacks.
In all three cases, the robbers gained entry by breaking windows and cutting the burglar bars with a bolt cutter.
The victim of the first robbery just after midnight, a mother of a teenager, was shot in her bedroom.
She died on the scene.
Her daughter managed to escape.
The other robberies were conducted mere minutes after the first one.
A couple in their sixties were attacked, and a lady who lives alone was robbed.
When confronted by their carelessness, many people blame loadshedding or the heat of the past few weeks for their negligence.
Members of the public are warned against crime hot spots in towns but continue to visit desolate and dark places where they are attacked and robbed.
In one such case, a male victim was attacked, his laptop and phone taken and he was ordered to pay the money in his account over to the perpetrators.
People are warned against intersections known for smash-and-grab incidents but do not comply and drive with open windows and unlocked doors.
People waiting in their vehicles in underground parking lots with open doors and windows are vulnerable to attacks and theft.
This apathy includes many people from what we believe to be generally safe places to live, such as Orkney, Klerksdorp, Potchefstroom, Fochville and many others.
We have information that in one of these towns, 11 home invasions occurred in ONE weekend alone.
Our colleagues point out that it is not only the apathy that is prevalent amongst the general public but also their refusal to take heed of warnings issued.
If they become a victim, they generally do not open cases at the SAPS.
They use excuses such as the attitude of the SAPS members and that they believe nothing will come of the complaint.
If crime is not reported, the extent of the problem will never be realised and successfully addressed.
If the SAPS is not held accountable by the citizens, their mandate will not be realised, and they will not step up to serve and protect.
Using the reasoning that the SAPS is not trusted to do their work compounds our country's problems.
Insurance companies and medical funds buckle under the strain of crimes committed.
NEWS ARTICLE:
Such a negative attitude and complacency do not bear any hope for our communities since no one is willing to take accountability.
SSS appreciates the help of our counterparts in the fight against crime. Mr Ben Calitz of Spectrack Security is one such person who puts his own life on the line to help others. This project reveals the daily problems he and many like him, deal with to safeguard South Africa’s citizens. Mr Calitz’ concerns are similar to ours and we raise it in an attempt to save lives. The public must realise that stolen property can be recouped or claimed against, but a life lost due to negligence and apathy cannot be excused.
In the following projects, SSS will reiterate extremely important safety measures to safeguard your person, family members and property.
Specialised Security Services invites the public to the Mike Bolhuis Daily Projects WhatsApp Group. This group is important in delivering insights into the latest crime trends, awareness, warnings and the exposure of criminals.
