If there is suspicion of a child being exposed to poison or receiving incorrect medication or dosage, immediate action is imperative. Contact the nearest medical professional for guidance without waiting for symptoms to manifest.
SYMPTOMS:
The symptoms arising from significant poisoning in a child depend on various factors, including the specific substance involved and the extent of exposure:
Nausea.

Secure all medications in a locked cabinet.
If carrying them in a handbag, ensure it is kept inaccessible to children.
Store household chemicals, such as cleaners and gardening products, out of children's reach, preferably in locked storage.
Administer medications without distractions, adhering strictly to dosage instructions.
Establish a cross-checking system with caregivers to prevent accidental double dosing.
Keep poisons out of sight and reach, even those stored in the refrigerator, particularly brightly coloured liquids.
Recognise children's climbing abilities and ensure inaccessible items remain securely stored.
Verify the effectiveness of child-resistant caps on medication and cleaning containers, ensuring proper closure after use.
Refrain from taking medications in front of children to prevent mimicry, and never refer to medications as "treats."
Store handbags, both yours and visitors, out of reach of children.
