Social media harassment imposes significant and enduring harm on its victims, extending well beyond the confines of the digital world. The relentless onslaught of abusive messages, threats, and derogatory comments inflicts profound emotional distress, precipitating anxiety, depression, and in severe cases, suicidal ideation. Victims find themselves trapped in a vicious cycle of fear and humiliation, their self-esteem eroded and their social and professional lives disrupted.
Our client has been harassed by Hannes Lottering and applied for a Harassment Order in terms of SECTION 11(1)(a) of the Protection of Harassment Act, 2011 (Act No 17 of 2011).
His comments were personal and significantly influenced her life.
She felt threatened, and his actions influenced her family, friends, and employer.
Mr Lottering made numerous comments and posted them on different social media platforms.
A harassment order was obtained, and a final protection order was served on him in 2023 at Parys, where he was residing at that time.
However, Mr Lottering continued with his behaviour towards our client, and a Warrant of Arrest was issued after proof was submitted to the SAPS in October 2023.
In May 2024, Mr Lottering again contravened the Harassment Order by posting confidential information on social media.
Another statement by our client was submitted at SAPS Wierdabrug.
In the meantime, Lottering alleged that he went to Botswana on 13 May 2023.
Hannes Lottering is very well known for his harassment towards several different parties on social media.
He is also the administrator on the Face Book Page “Schalla van die Vaaldam Viking en ander ongediertes”.
This platform is used to incriminate persons against whom he has any action for any reason.
He targeted numerous ladies in past years on WhatsApp, Facebook, and other social media platforms.
According to information obtained, there are currently three harassment orders against him, and the application for a fourth was made in the past week.
Any person with information on his whereabouts is requested to contact the SSS investigators.
