BUSINESS IMPERSONATION / PUBLIC MISREPRESENTATION / FRAUD
The purpose of this project is to inform and warn the public not to engage in business dealings or charity work
with the impersonator who is claiming to represent and/or be in close relation with:
Jacaranda FM and Mr Jo Black.
Specialised Security Services has been mandated to investigate a case of impersonation and misrepresentation that has led to serious concerns for the parties who instructed us to investigate the matter. Our clients have excellent reputations, and it has come to their attention that a member of the public has been impersonating them by means of:
Fraudulent document manipulation.
Fake social media accounts.
Falsified email letterheads.
Fabricated personal and business relationships between the suspect and well-known public figures, including our clients.
The impersonation has escalated to a level where the impersonator has been receiving complimentary vouchers and services and even donations in cash from businesses that were led to believe that they were dealing with our clients directly.
CASE 1:
Jacaranda FM was contacted by a concerned member of the public who informed them that "Miss Liandri Steyn" contacted them requesting complimentary vouchers for an event.
Our client realized that they had no record of attending the event and they requested more information from the caller.
The information received from the caller revealed that a persona named "Liandri Steyn" has been presenting herself as an employee of the radio station for some time.
Fraudulent email signatures and company letterheads were generated, along with a fraudulent email address used for official communications.
Specialised Security Services were contacted, and an investigation into the matter was subsequently requested.

Mr Thabang Malan is manipulating documents, photos, and videos to generate a false social media presence.
He has also been committing fraud using aliases and creating fake documents.
CASE 2:
Mr Jo Black was contacted by several schools who requested his presence for appearances that were booked.
Mr Black, having no recollection of the events, requested more information from the caller.
This led to the discovery that Mr. Black’s name and reputation was being used by an impersonator who was attempting to collect donations from schools and promising in return that Mr Black would perform at the school.
More calls were received, and it was soon becoming clear that the same individual was responsible in every instance.
Specialised Security Services were contacted, and an investigation into the matter was subsequently requested.
Both Jacaranda FM and Mr Jo Black regard these devious acts as unacceptable and upon realizing the serious nature of these acts, they decided to deal with the situation promptly and professionally to warn the public and to protect their good name and reputation.
Specialised Security Services conducted a thorough forensic investigation into the matter, identifying several mobile phone numbers, Facebook accounts and email addresses used by the impersonator to attempt to defraud the public.
After an intensive investigation, we were able to identify the impersonator as Mr Thabang Malan or as he is formally registered:
Mr Thabang Tshabalala from Pretoria Gauteng.
Concerns that Mr Malan might have been impersonating other businesses as well surfaced after our investigation revealed that he has created a false persona on social media depicting him as a celebrity of sorts.
Many of the photos and videos that were shared by Mr Malan indicating that he has or is attending “America’s Got Talent” were found to be edited and manipulated to deceive the public into thinking that he has been selected to travel to America.
The concerning matter is that Mr Malan has been so manipulative that he has managed to convince news outlets to do news segments covering his "rise" to fame.
He has been using newspaper articles and his appearances in other media formats as a means to add legitimacy to his claims of fame and fortune.
Below are some examples of how Mr Malan manipulated photos to make it seem as though he is in a video with "America’s Got Talent" judges.
This was done as part of his ploy to convince the public that he was invited to attend the show in America.

Another matter of grave concern is that Mr Malan has visited several schools, and it has come to light that he has used his charismatic personality, along with the promise of free vouchers and event tickets, to impress upon the children.
The concerning allegation is that Mr Malan has been texting with some of the minor schoolgirls, asking for the names of their friends and requesting photos from them.
Given the deceptive nature observed in other acts by Mr Malan, SSS strongly advises that Schools and other institutions refuse Mr Malan access to their premises unless a thorough investigation and vetting has been done.
Specialised Security Services has reached out to Mr Malan to obtain his side of the story; Mr Malan denied all accusations, claiming that he has been in America for the past two months.
Our investigation, along with other supporting witnesses, has found that to be a lie, considering Mr Malan does not have a valid passport for international travel.
A criminal case of fraud and misrepresentation will be registered with the South African Police Service.
We want to inform the public that Mr. Thabang Malan has no affiliation with Jacaranda FM or Mr Jo Black. We urge the public to always confirm directly with an entity before donating money, booking an event or conducting business of any sort.
We warn the public to always make sure that someone is who they claim to be, it is your right to confirm someone’s
identity or employment before engaging in a transaction for a product or service.
